APDA/AFPPD Activities for Strengthening National Committees on Population and Development: Indonesia

29-30 November 2022, Jakarta, Indonesia

The Asian Population and Development Association (APDA) and the Indonesian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (IFPPD) held a seminar on Three Zeros (ending preventable maternal death, ending unmet need for family planning, and ending gender-based violence and harmful practices) on 29 November and an exchange programme on Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH) and gender on 30 November in Jakarta, Indonesia.

On the first day, 80 participants including members of the Indonesian Parliament, Government, NGOs, and women organizations attended in person, while 91 persons joined via YouTube and 68 persons via Zoom. The seminar was addressed by, among others, Hon. Prof. Keizo Takemi, Chair of AFPPD, Hon. Dr. Dede Yusuf Macan Effendi, Chair of IFPPD, representatives of UNFPA Indonesia Office, Bappenas (Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency), BKKBN (National Population and Family Planning Board of Indonesia), Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (MoWE CP). On the second day, there were 69 participants offline and 47 persons via Zoom, most of whom were young people.

Through the 2-day event, the importance of full participation and involvement of youth was highlighted as the key to addressing the three zeros and ASRH. IFPPD also seized this opportunity to strengthen partnership with relevant organizations and invite more new IFPPD members, aiming to reinvigorate its efforts to address population and development issues.
