APDA/AFPPD Activities for Strengthening National Committees on Population and Development: Kyrgyzstan
17 January 2025, Bishkek, KyrgyzstanOn January 17, the Asian Population and Development Association (APDA), in partnership with the Parliamentary National Committee on Population and Development of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, hosted a meeting of parliamentarians to discuss advancing gender equality and expanding the rights and opportunities of women and girls. The meeting brought together approximately 30 participants, including Kyrgyzstan parliamentarians, ministry representatives, and officials from UNFPA Kyrgyzstan Office.
The meeting was opened by H.E. Azygaliyev Nurlanbek, Deputy Speaker of Parliamenta and facilitated by Hon. Elvira Surabaldieva, MP, Chair of the Parliamentary National Committee. Discussions focused on the implementation of the national gender policy, key challenges in achieving gender equality in the country, and the role of judicial institutions in addressing these issues. The participants reaffirmed the importance of ensuring the rights of women and children, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and encouraged continued efforts not only in Kyrgyzstan but globally to drive meaningful progress on gender equality.
